What the MKV to MP4 converter preserves
Matroska can hold several audio tracks, subtitle streams, attachments, chapters, and many different video codecs. MP4 follows a different set of container rules. The MKV to MP4 converter creates a playable delivery copy, but it should not be treated as a one-to-one duplicate of everything stored in the MKV.
Auto writes H.264 video with AAC audio for broad playback support. Cross-container Stream Copy is hidden, so this page re-encodes supported video and audio instead of performing a fast remux. Re-encoding takes longer and can introduce some generation loss, but it also avoids placing an unchecked or incompatible stream into MP4. Compatible metadata is preserved when possible, but Matroska-specific tags may have no MP4 equivalent. Chapter and attachment survival is not promised. Keep the original MKV when any of those elements matter.
Audio tracks and subtitles need a deliberate check
A successful status confirms that a file was encoded. It does not confirm that every Matroska stream was carried into the result.
Audio tracks
The normal workflow does not provide a language or commentary track selector. FFmpeg chooses audio automatically, so a multi-language MKV can produce a valid MP4 with a different track than the one you expected.
Play the downloaded file and confirm the spoken language, commentary, channel layout, and synchronization before treating it as final.
Subtitles
Embedded MKV subtitle Copy is unavailable because the container changes. Instead, upload one SRT or ASS file and choose Hard or Soft. Hard subtitles become part of the image.
MP4 soft subtitles are converted to mov_text. Basic text remains selectable, but ASS fonts, positioning, animation, and styling are not guaranteed to transfer. The uploaded file must already match the video's timing. The converter does not synchronize an unrelated subtitle release.
MKV to MP4 converter settings for phones, TVs, and browsers
Use the simplest combination accepted by the destination. The MKV to MP4 converter exposes newer codecs for known workflows, not as automatic upgrades.

Choose quality and size without guessing
For an explicit H.264 output, CRF 18 keeps more encoded detail, 21 is a practical balanced test, and 28 creates a smaller result with a larger visual cost. Raise CRF gradually when the MP4 is too large. A slower CPU preset may compress more efficiently, but it also lengthens the job. Use CBR only when a service specifies a fixed bitrate rather than when you simply want a predictable-looking result.
Leave dimensions and frame rate unchanged first. Lower resolution when the viewing size or upload limit justifies it. Lowering frame rate removes motion samples, and upscaling cannot restore detail. Grain, smoke, water, and rapid camera movement usually need more data than a static presentation, so one bitrate cannot promise the same appearance for every source. The MKV to MP4 converter can also crop, pad, scale, rotate, flip, or trim a file, but each transform changes the delivered picture and should answer a real requirement.
Diagnose a missing track or rejected MP4
The result should be checked in the player that originally rejected the MKV, not only in the browser used to download it.
Wrong audio
If the language or commentary is wrong, the source probably contains several audio streams. This page cannot choose an embedded track. Prepare a source with the intended track or use a workflow with explicit stream selection.
Missing subtitles
If captions are absent, remember that embedded cross-container Copy is not available. Upload an SRT or ASS file. Use Hard when captions must remain visible in the picture, then check for font substitution. Use Soft for a selectable MP4 text track with simpler styling.
Unsupported output
If the target rejects the file, retry with H.264 and AAC at the original dimensions and frame rate. Avoid H.265 or VP9 until the destination confirms support.
Failed conversion
If the job fails, confirm that the MKV plays through its full duration and is not encrypted or incomplete. The MKV to MP4 converter does not guarantee repair of damaged packets, missing frames, or an unreadable source.
